How to filter porn sites on Windows

Do you want to block porn sites so no one can frame you of watching porn on your computer? Do you want to filter porn content to prevent your students from distractions at class? Do you want to block any site at all? If you use Windows (2000, XP or Vista) there is an easy way to do the job, just modifying the windows hosts file.

On XP/VISTA the hosts file is located in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC directory, and in the C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC folder on Windows 2000. Open that file with notepad (you may need privileges). To block a site add a new line at the bottom of the file and type “127.0.0.1 siteyouwanttoblock.com” without using quotes. This will block siteyouwanttoblock.com. Repeat the process for any site you wish to block (just one site per line), and then save the file.

That’s it! Now no one will be able to enter that site ever again!… unless of course they use a web proxy… but hey! it’s still a pretty simple way to filter web sites.

Didn’t find this usefull? Well, you can always add 127.0.0.1 somekindofpaper.info to your hosts file.
